Another very very hot day. The cows are going through nearly three hundred litres of water a day so I've put some electrolytes and mineral blocks out for them now the weather is much much fiercer. We've got rain coming during next week which is badly needed here in Northland. Hopefully plenty will fall for a couple of days anyway. My sister Lynette headed home today so it's slightly less crowded here on the farm. I had to go to the Maungaturoto Vet Centre again today as yet more unwanted kittens had been brought in and here they are.....

Beautiful and so cute. It's such a shame some people don't neuter and spey their pets and this is the sad result. I'm going to keep blogging about these kittens and mother cat until they are found new homes. Good news on the little abandoned kittie she has been found a wonderful home. Thank you to the caring people who are now giving her the love she deserves.



Now onto the two little trouble making kitties Sasquatch and Yowie. Victims today including one pair of gumboots, my toes,the washing, one ugly mouse must die toy, paper, Elmo the monster and one sad unfortunate slater. Other victims - each other. And here's some more photos.....

The day wasn't that busy but the noise going on with the chickens cackling at poor Dream who was trying to mind her own business anyone would have thought an invasion had come

The Terrorist thought all her birthdays had come at once when we had shifted her to some new grass that in some places was taller than she was.........
But.....nice grass is nooo substitute for the nice bottle. Bottle is far far better and she should be weaned by now...not. Spoilt rotten more so than last year's calves. Too cute to say no too...
It's been a good day especially for the Terrorist she got her bottle tonight...............

And yesterday was...Mad?

Crazy is back here on the farm. With two more to add to the collection things here have gone insane. The house has become a tiny kittie hunting and war ground. Dream and Emerald of course are not pleased about two miniature trouble makers entering their domain. A first encounter we got this...

And Sasquatch was well being..himself. Big Fur makes little kittie look MEANER.......

After an entire morning of biting everything including the hoomans kitties decided it was time to find a little resting spot before the next plan for making big trouble was carried out.....

Apart from farm work which is forever needing to be done we have two of my sisters up staying for a few days we have a farm full. Roi my brother in law is a great cook and we had a great meal last night. Before heading up the hill to feed Sasha we spotted these black berries all ready for picking and spraying. The kids reckon they'll be out on the farm today picking all the ripe ones so we can make blackberry jam - yum.
The chickens of course were crashed out under the palm tree trying to keep out of the hot sun. I didn't get a nice friendly greeting just the usual where's our food look. Nothing new with that lot.

Sasha has been put in the top paddock and already looks far better. Her old owner had gone to a sale and had shown up with a brand new cotton sun sheet so Sasha could have some protection from the hot summer sun


Sasha though wasn't so interested in her new cover she was more interested in her dinner.

My sister Lynette had it all worked out she was just chilled out watching the view. Yesterday was a good day afterall.

That sound should mean bees perhaps? No two things..the first was a busybody. Namely someone deciding that they should ring the SPCA and complain that the Terrorist was supposedly wearing a calf cover in the hot summer sun. Come again?At night if rain is on it's way perhaps, but now the Terrorist is of an age where the cover is no longer even needed. So yeah sounds like someone has a very big imagination. This is visit number three over complaints that turned out to have no grounds in actual fact. Sharley the SPCA Inspector really didn't want to have to drive an hour from Whangarei knowing deep down in her very wise bones the so-called complaint would turn out to a complete waste of both her time and mine. I was down in the dam when she came. And Damn! Is what I said. Anyway Sharley took a look at the so-called covered calf and shook her head saying What cover? And I said exactly so I don't want to be Ms Buzybody when Sharley rings her and tells her just what a timewaster she really is. BZZZZZ. The second is our nasty little nest of wasps I got rid of today. I wish I had some spray for the buzybody as well...More to blog but it's late. Just got back from dinner with my family who are staying here on the farm for a few days so it's been a little full on. Great news for Rae too on her awards. Sorry Rae I couldn't get over to say AWESOME. Beats this rather mundane post anyday. More in the morning (our time that is) til then have a great night/morning guys.

Anyone a Crypto-Zoologist?

I have a Yowie and a Sasquatch now in residence. Innocent as they may be I just know that somehow the Yeti living at my sister's house has somehow influenced these Yeti types in training. One word says it all TROUBLE. Theories on these small Yeti-types in training would be welcomed. I hope they aren't already small minions of Basement Cat ready to get my toes with their tiny but deadly claws...........I'll admit this..they are CUTE.

A Sad tale to tell at the Maungaturoto Vet Centre today

By now you would think the world would be a caring place. Animals (and people too) it seems though sometimes get the raw end of the deal. Some only live a few days before their young lives end. Others are abandoned by their careless uncaring owners and left to the wilderness to somehow survive. Most don't. The kids and I had to go to the Maungaturoto Vet Centre today to get some worming tablets for Dream and Emerald. Outside the Vet Centre was this..........
Summer means kitten time and an over abundance it seems this year. Inside Katherine at the vets had a sad tale to tell me and the girls about the situation for two particular cats they had there in the centre...This poor mother cat was abandoned along with her kittens by some uncaring careless person. Mother cat has been speyed by the caring team at the Maungaturoto Vet Centre and she needs a new home

Then there was this very sad little kitten that someone had dumped and someone else had found and brought into the vet centre. She needs a home too

Stinky Possums, Dams, Horses and strange photos

It's been a long day. For once things here weren't so crazy. Usual routine. Cats doing the sneaky stuff, six chickens at the door with Maggie tapping on the ranch slider demanding their breakfast. Take the Terrorist down the hill and tie her up for the day to graze. Trudge up the hill and clear out two stinky pesky possums out of the traps. I hate possums they are such a pest. Way too many this year far more than normal and doing some serious damage to our trees and gardens. Two less wrecking everything and two more holes dug. The flaxes I put on top of them will be well fed for the next few months....
I spent the rest of the day sorting out our top dam. Working long hours previously meant important things around the farm like keeping the dams cleared out of weeds got left. Not a good scene. It's getting there. A bit each day will see things all back to how they should be and me not having to worry about serious flooding like last winter's little display. Not fun. With that all done as much as I could do without over doing things the kids and I had an early dinner then went up to sort out the horses. Sasha needs more condition so we decided to take her up to the top of the farm to better grazing. The old man of course is not happy the love of his life has been taken away
Naturally of course Sasha ended up with an audience from the notorious gang of four.......
And River decided she had to come over and see her hooman Mum just to make sure she hadn't been forgotten.
With cows and horses all done we headed on down the hill and on the way I decided to take a photo of something other than the kids and the animals. Like a drain pipe?
Or how about a noxious weed for good photography? No?

Window shopping,Chickens that won't go to bed, and other things

I had visitors yesterday so the blog got left for a day. Blogs I think can be a really bad habit - not.
The kids and I while we were in Maungaturoto the other day also went window shopping and I got a shot of these little guys in the window of the Country Interiors shop. Not too sure if I'd have them at my place but they're still fun.
Long day yesterday. Not much happened around the farm. Just talk,talk and more talk - I call it gasbagging. Around 3 pm everything was nice and quiet again. Sunset came and with it two certain chickens name Maggie May and Feather that decided the chicken house wasn't the place to sleep last night.........
After physically picking the naughty pair of over loved poultry and shoving them into their roosts I grabbed the camera and got a shot of the sun setting over in the west ....
At 5 am this morning I got woken up to this.............
The moon according to Ian Musgrove over at Astroblog was at its fullest last night which indeed it was and around close to dawnrise half an hour later I got this.......
Came inside and found these two making themselves all comfortable. Dream ready to do a sneak visit onto the kitchen bench - plan foiled by the hooman catching her in the act of making the attempt.........
And Emerald figuring out how she was going to make a sneak attack on my barefeet..ouch! No she missed out.....
Not much else right now to blog about. I've got a heap of stuff to do on the farm here today including clearing out two smelly possums from our traps - oh joy.
